2009

A year full of the unexpected
A year where I met you guys
Half a year spent together
In laughter and strivings
Gained more than what I bargained for
Learnt more than I lost
In short, a year of joy and sorrow
Know what?
Getting to have all of you as classmates
Is definitely a great experience
I hope the friendship built
Would always be a long-lasting one

**See you in school at 04.01.10 ;)

Holidays

Hey, guys and girls? How are all of you?
It's been two weeks since the year end holidays begun..
Well, how was it? Enjoyed yourselves thouroughly?
Result slips were sent last week, and the postman might just drop by any moment from now to deliver the "dreadful letter" (as some may name it)..
I can almost picture the expression of some when they receive their result slips..
Of course, this does not exclude myself as being one of them..
Frankly, I'm too nervous to write anymore..
Well, I'll end here by wishing all of you "Happy Holiday!"

LS3 Made a Difference!

It is indeed heartening to read all your comments on your class blog about our R & D and the colloquium. I would like to congratulate all of you whole-heartedly for the great success of our research and the colloquium. The teamwork shown by LS3 was evident. I am glad i played a small role in helping you along the way but it is your own passion kindled for wildlife that saw the colloquium through. The issue of wildlife is very passionate to me personally. I am an animal lover..always have been and always will. When we were told that a research has to be conducted among the Lower PPU students; i grabbed the opportunity to use it to create an awareness of the plight of animals in you and through you, the others.
When i first introduced the topic, i was conscious that not many in the class were keen to do a research on wildlife. Yet, i am truly glad that i succeeded in evoking the enthusiasm in all of you to know more about animals and to just be mesmerised by their free-spiritedness and innocence. When you feel stressed or lonely or sad; i suggest you watch one of the vidoes depicting the beauty of wildlife and i can guarantee you that you would feel relaxed. Only animals have that power to do that...without expecting anything else in return. (Food for thought...)
I am very proud of all of you. It is an honour for me to have you as my students.
I have been reading your personal response to the R & D and some of your comments really touched me to the core. The true success of the R & D lies in the fact that many of you who were not that concerned about wildlife issues before; are truly educated now and believe in the worthy cause to help save wildlife. By reading your personal responses, i have come to know that there are some highly charismatic individuals in LS3.
Many of you have attested that the R & D had helped all of you to cooperate as a class and brought you together. That is really good to hear. I am glad it helped to integrate all of you as a team; though you come from different schools/backgrounds. One of you stated that it made a whole lot of difference to you as the impact made you appreciate the very fact you are doing Pre-U Programme. Those were strong words...
All in all, i can be rest assured all the 26 young adults from Lower Science Three of SMK Cochrane will be committed to save wildlife in whatever way you can...remember..THE POWER OF ONE!
I am sure all the animals would be very happy to know that you are doing your bit to help save them...haha :) You spoke up for them!

Many moments during the colloquium, my soul was profoundly touched again and again

Bear Brother

This is a story from long ago, when the great mammoths still roamed our lands.
It's the story of my two brothers and me.
When the three of us were young, we were taught that the world is full of magic.
The source of this magic is the ever-changing lights that dance across the sky.
The shaman woman of our village told us that these lights are the spirits of our ancestors, and that they had the power to make changes in our world.
Small things become big.
Winter turns to spring.
One thing always changes into another.
But the greatest change I ever saw was that of my brother.
A boy who desperately wanted to be a man...
This is the movie that will make you feel the call of nature.
Watch it!!!
I know it is a long time ago movie.
But, nice movie must watch again right?

What a Day!

This is the second post from me today.. I don't know why till now (more than 8 hours after the MUET presentation), my mind is still filled with the scenes during the presentation in DK1.. And I just feel like thanking everyone once more for everything!

To our dear Pn Caroline, I truly want to express my heartfelt gratitude for your motivation and guidance throughout this whole project thing. At first, I was as ignorant as those who did not really pay much attention to wildlife issues. I guess if the questionnaire was posted to me, I wouldn't be able to answer them correctly. However, now, I can really see the reason of your passion towards wildlife as I feel the same too! This whole R&D on wildlife has changed me and given me new perspective of these wonderful creatures. Hence, I am really thankful for the effort and all the hard work that you've put into this project. Though you were sick at times, yet, that did not stop you from coming to school and continue guiding us. Thank you, Pn Caroline! May God bless you richly!

To my team mates of the presenter group, I wish to congratulate all of you for the success in carrying out the presentation. Thank you for all the hard work and labour of yours! I can assure you that the effort you made are not in vain. I believe that all we've done together has somehow or rather brought forth the conviction and realisation of the audience regarding wildlife issues. So once again, thank you! =)

To my dear classmates of LS3, thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thanks for all your hard work, help and support that has helped us greatly in making the presentation a huge success! Personally, I've got to know all of you better through this period of carrying out the R&D. I feel that we are bonded even closer now. Do you remember the 2 songs we sang for the "Talent Show" during our Lower PPU Orientation Week? "Kenangan Terindah" and "Shining Friends". I think now we can really comprehend and grasp the meaning of it in a deeper measure. A huge thanks to all of you!

To the Upper PPU and Lower PPU Arts students, I would also like to thank all of you sincerely for taking the time and trouble to attend this presentation of ours. We are encouraged by your presence and that has gave us lots of the moral support we needed. We hope you enjoyed the whole presentation and learned some practical truths that were conveyed through the presentation. Thank you so much!

To the students from LS2 and LS1 that was present for the presentation, I would also express my gratitude for the moral support you gave before, during and after the presentation. Thank you! I'm truly touched by your sincerity in extending your help and support when we needed it. What else can I say besides "Thank You"?

A final thanks goes to the teachers that were present for our presentation. Thank you so much for allocating some of your valuable time to join us in this meaningful presentation!

Appreciation

Today, a colloquium regarding wildlife which organized by Lower Science Three had been carried out successfully.

First and foremost, I would like to apologize for any mistakes I made during the presentation. I was nervous as the presentation began with my speech yet I was the group leader. Some of my pronunciations might incorrect. Anyway, in my point of view, all of my teammates conducted their performances excellently.

Michelle: Oh my god, I was going to blurt out I love you when the presentation is being conducted. You are such a responsible president. You never absent in any meetings no matter it is privately organized by we, five presenters, or even back to school in weekends to meet with teacher. Besides, you spent a lot of time to complete the power point presentation which includes findings of pictures, animation, decoration, and etc. Furthermore, I would like to say thank you for accompany me to distribute the leaflets to principal, and Pn. Helawati.

Grace: Without Grace, the grammar mistakes we made in our script would in a mess. Grace checked for all of our scripts and rectifies the mistakes in the scripts one by one. In addition, she brought her personal laptop everyday for this presentation uses.

As the progressing of the presentation involved all of my classmates instead of the five presenters only, I would like to express my appreciation for yours’ hard struggle to get the work done in time. In addition, I would like to make mention of few classmates.

Yean Chu: I can observe your concerned for wildlife and the presentation during this 2 months. Though you’re not involved in the presentation group, you are volunteered to design 2 posters to distribute to all the classes. Besides, you are also taking part in the designation for the leaflets which we distributed to all the teachers. All the comments you gave was by heart and I knew you are paying full attention while 5 of the presenters presenting. Thanks a lot.

Choi Yan: You are the greatest “clicker”. =) During the progressing of this presentation, I knew you are stressed as well as all the presenters do. You have to memorize a lot of things as you are posed as secretary besides “clicker”. You had never complaint for these difficulties. On the contrary, you tried your best to complete your mission. Thank you.

This presentation would not be carried out successfully if any one of you is absent as everyone played an essential role. However, I am sorry for not mentioned all of the classmates while all of you put a lot of efforts on this presentation.

Furthermore, I would like to express my special thanks to Philip Chua, Joel, Lai Yee, Thien Jee, Jun Kang, Jing Mun, Pui Yan, Sin Hong, Shin Wee, Woo Tung, Chieh Hwa, Lai Yen, and all of those who attend our presentation. Hope that all of you had benefitted through our presentation!

Last but not least, special thanks go to Puan Caroline, our presentation advisor. She spent 2 months time with us to carry out this research. She did really show her passionate on wildlife issues. Without Puan Caroline, definitely this research would not be conducted successfully.

In conclusion, I hope our presentation would bring great impacts to all of you. This isn’t just a presentation for our class. In fact, this is a mission in our vision after we really plough into the preparation. Everyone have the responsibility for the conservation of wildlife.

Please save the animals. Save the wildlife.

The MUET Colloquium

Yeah.... Yeah..
I feel so happy and relieved after the MUET colloquium...
I hope everyone that attended the presentation will get benefited & stop the cruelty towards wildlife.
Remember, it is our responsibility to take care of the nature and wildlife...
I really want to thanz Lower Sains 2 for their full support.
Not to forget, the Upper 6 and Lower Art's students that attended our colloquium.
Thanz a lot...
A thousand of appreciation to our Muet's teacher, Pn Caroline for her guidance.
She really affected me to show passion to the wildlife.
Before doing this muet research, to be honest, I do not really have passion or awareness about the extinction of wildlife.
Through this 2 months of research regarding to wildlife, I really get a lot of new information & experiences.
We also go through a lot of obstacles and problems in the process of preparing this presentation.
Without my teammates and classmates, we will not be able to complete this colloquium.
I love you all...
Through this research, our friendship bonding is getting stronger and stronger.

In the process of preparing this research, I feel so sad when I saw the ignorance of the students.
But then,i started to understand that it wasn't their fault.
They are just like me before I do the research.
We will not love something until we get to know them...

This presentation really changes my life.
-I will never purchase leather made items in my life...
-I will not consume exotic meat.
-I will try to convey my friends and family to pay more attention towards wildlife issue.
-I will try my level best to involve in the conservation wildlife activities.
-I will love and care for all the animals around me.
I will never say or think that wildlife is not my business.
It is my business. In fact,it is everyone business.
Love the animals. Don't let them be history.

MUET Presentation

^^ Our presentation has just ended.. I'm really glad and relieved that it was regarded as a success.. I really want to take this opportunity to thank everyone that is invloved.. Thank you for all your hard work and moral support.. And not forgetting my team mates, well done! All of you did a great job!
Looking back, the sleepless nights and times of toils really did pay off.. I'm happy that all the hard work and effort put into it wasn't in vain.. The response of the audience was encouraging.. Oh ya, I do not want to miss out the Upper PPU students and the Lower Arts PPU students for their presence and support.. Hearing their comments had given me great encouragement.. A huge thanks to all of you who had indirectly given your support and encouragement by taking time to be present for our MUET presentation! Thank you Pn. Caroline for your guidance throughout the preparation for our presentation..
In whole, I'm really happy for the success in carrying out the presentation.. I hope the audience had gained a deeper insight on wildlife and be determined to play their part in helping save these wildlife species.. =)

~Help!~

Hi! I would kindly request the help of everyone who sees this post to help me.. The public speaking competition (national level) is going to be held on the 27th - 29th of october in Kuantan, Pahang. Talking of it makes me feel nervous about the whole thing.. Hence, I really need your help in helping to edit and correct any kind of mistake found in my speech.. Please kindly leave a comment as to where it needs to be improved, so that I can make the amendments.. You can also take it and ask for advice from anyone else.. I'm open to all advice or correction.. Please help me... Please.. Please... Please.... And a huge thanks for your help and support.. =)
Here's my speech:

‘Corruption is a tree, whose branches are of an immeasurable length: they spread everywhere; and the dew that drops from thence hath infected some chairs and stools of authority. – Honest Man’s Fortune’

A very good morning to the respectable chairperson, honourable adjudicators, accurate time keepers. Invited guests and members of the floor. On this pleasant morning, I am going to present a speech entitled “Towards Excellent Malaysia without Corruption”.

According to the Concise Oxford Dictionary, the word ‘excellent’ brings the meaning of ‘pre-eminent’. In other words the phrase ‘Excellent Malaysia’ means a Malaysia that is extremely good from every aspect. Meanwhile, the word “corruption” is defined as ‘the misuse of a public or private position for direct or indirect personal gain’. Malaysia is a nation like no other. However, corruption has been rearing its ugly head ever since it has been a nation. It is damaging, just as the former premier Dato’ Seri Abdullah Bin Ahmad Badawi, stated during the 4th Regional Anti-Corruption Conference of Asia and Pacific, that “combating corruption is not just for the simple reason that corruption is morally wrong, but because corruption exacts a heavy toll on nation’s social, political and economic well-being.” Thus, viable measures should be taken in dealing with corruption effectively. Controlling it is only possible with the cooperation of a wide range of stakeholders in the integrity system, including the government, both public and private sectors, the community, and most importantly, every individual. There are four major measures that can be implemented while working towards an excellent Malaysia without corruption.

First and foremost, the enforcement of law is an effective measure in preventing corruption. Though not always impressively effectual, yet the enforcement of law had proofed the indispensable value of its existence in combating corruption. Individuals, corporations, industries, offices, political figures or even royalties who are convicted of corruption should face justice just like anyone else. There should not be any immunity for anyone who is guilty of corruption. Rigorous and stringent rules and regulations ought to be implemented as a measure of curbing corruption. In Malaysia, various steps in the enforcement of law have been taken to prevent and reduce corruption, such as the establishment of the Integrity Institute of Malaysia [IIM] and the implementation of the National Integrity Plan [NIP]. Besides, the Malaysia Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) also carries the objective to continuously eliminate all forms of corruption, abuse of power and malpractice. The introduction of Anti-Corruption Act 1997 is also a proactive measure taken by the authority. The few measures given above clearly show that our country has done veritable good efforts in enforcing laws while dealing with corruption. It is only through constant re-examination and re-assessment, will the laws applied be up to date and relevant in dealing with the present crisis of corruption. Hence, it can be concluded that the enforcement of law together with constant re-evaluation is a main key that leads us towards an excellent country that is free from corruption.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

The second measure in treating corruption, which comes alongside with the enforcement of law would be education. Curbing corruption does not solely depend on the punishment received when the law is broken. Rather, it is also important that the public should be educated on the negative consequences of corruption. Moreover, the public should also be educated on the acute repercussions if they are involved in bribery. Therefore, campaigns organized by various organizations for the purpose of educating the public regarding the danger of corruption are essential to enlighten the public. Through talks and speeches, the public will learn more about corruption. Other than that, education on bribery and corruption issues should begin with the formal education system. Through moral classes in school, students will be more equipped with the knowledge of the importance to refrain themselves from falling into the entrapment of corruption. This is a crucial step, because if the future generation is not thwarted from committing the same mistake, solving the current problem will only serve to be futile. Thus, it can be seen clearly that education is crucial in the effort of combating corruption in order for our country to excel towards excellent Malaysia without corruption.

Members of the floor,

Religious teachings and moral values are not to be omitted. From the aspect of religion, we need to improvise ourselves prudently according to the teachings of various beliefs. This will constantly remind us that all these acts are against God. What is for sure is that corruption is definitely against all religious laws. The first of the five national principles is to believe in God, which is a very strong deterrent for someone to act maliciously or coveting dishonest gain. As for moral values, Malaysia is gaining a head start to implement moral classes in middle and high schools. People who have high moral values stands for the noble side, they have a less proclivity to give in to the desire of near-sighted mindset to take the easy but less virtuous way out when dealing with financial gain. Thus, this clearly shows us that religious teachings and moral values are important criterions that cannot be left out as measures in combating corruption while striving towards the excellence that Malaysia can achieve without corruption.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Last but not least, the mass media plays an essential role in combating corruption in our country efficiently. The Malaysian media plays its role in making commendable efforts towards highlighting and exposing the corruption cases of high profile ones in the public and private sector. Complaints and comments from readers and viewers exposing wrongdoings are bold. This, in turn, leads to the crackdown on malpractices after being exposed by the media. Some of the television programmes which boldly track down and expose these corruption cases are such as, the programmes 999 and Siasat. Therefore, the mass media serves as an effective tool of educating and raising the awareness of the public regarding corruption and its consequences. In addition, news of corruption and its negative effects that constantly lights the scene of the television has served as warnings and lessons to the public, ensuring that they would not fall for the lure of corruption. Thus, it is clearly seen that the mass media plays an important part in combating corruption successfully, whereby Malaysia can attain excellence in being free from corruption.

Based on the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) in year 2008, Malaysia was ranked 47th out of 180 countries in the whole world with an average score of 5.1. Thus, it can be concluded that the review of efforts that have been made in Malaysia to combat corruption is encouraging. Yet it is also clear that some of the major issues discussed above need to be addressed if Malaysia hopes to succeed in its attempt to reduce corruption. I believe that with the help and cooperation of every party, our attempt in striving towards an excellent Malaysia will not be in vain. So let us, as citizens of Malaysia, start to take up our roles and responsibilities, and cooperate as we work towards our goal of attaining an excellent Malaysia without corruption. Thank you.
